Nestled between the beach and lakes of West Lakes Shore, our
school is inclusive, kind and community focused. With outstanding indoor and
outdoor facilities we take pride in providing real-life, whole school connected
learning experiences, and support the achievement, engagement and wellbeing for
all.
Our school improvement plan prioritises Numeracy and Writing, with a focus on
providing challenging learning and better support/targeted resources to ensure
growth for every child. School data analysis shows improvements in achievement
and student progress and we aim to maintain this momentum.
We operate a Connected Curriculum that brings the whole-school together in
shared learning based around the Australian Curriculum. Each term we run a
whole-school 'Day of Action'; previous highlights include our anti-bullying
'Buddy Run' and Harmony Day 'Mexican Wave' filmed message. We have a site
Wellbeing and Community Hub and implement and teach PEACE Pack and other
relevant social and emotional programs to ensure students are equipped with the
skills to respond to, and be proactive around, keeping themselves and others
safe from all forms of bullying.
We have highly skilled specialist teachers offering Performing and Visual Arts,
Physical Education, Music and Japanese, alongside a wide-range of
extra-curricular learning experiences, including SALA art, Numerical Accumen,
Japanese Cultural Day, STEAM community projects, camps, sports, SAPSASA, choir,
Festival of Music, music tuition and aquatics. We have an extensive after
school sports program supported by family volunteers and a proud history of
awards in District SAPSASA and State sports events.
All staff and students are encouraged to take on responsibilities and lead in
areas of passion, with action teams such as the Nature Play, Media and IT and
Harmony Day Crew, alongside student lead project management such as the Ninja
Play-space. Students undertake leadership roles as Wellbeing Warriors, School
Tour Ambassadors, Media and Library Ambassadors, Nature Play Crew, Aboriginal
and Senior Leaders, House Leaders and Student Voice. At a leadership day
senior students co-create, with input from staff, suggested roles and
responsibilities.
Our 'Partnership in Learning' with our families is of utmost importance to us.
We invite families to be part of our community drive to provide the best
achievement, engagement and wellbeing for all. Family members are welcome to
volunteer throughout the school by, participating in excursions and camps,
coaching sports, volunteering in the canteen or library, joining the Community
Network or nominating for Governing Council and associated committees. We
also offer insights into learning to assist them to support their child in key
areas such as phonics and number.
We use EdSmart for quick email communication of events, newsletters
and other various important information within our school community. All
class teachers use Seesaw. Make sure your email address is up to date and download the Seesaw app. We also have a school Facebook page to celebrate success and share
highlights where you can join and become a member of our Community Network.
This network, run by our GC community representative, seeks to build a positive
and connected community.
We look forward to the opportunity to share our school with you
on an upcoming Principal tour. We have regular tours throughout the year. Dates
are available and bookings can be made via this website. We look forward to
meeting you in the near future.
Carol and the WLSS staff.
